This Place Matters

Both the community development and historic preservation fields empower individuals to shape their communities and, thus, their sense of identity. Both fields have increasingly become “place-based,” and focus on improving places and surrounding community.

We need historic places to help ground us in our past, but also in our future, as historic buildings are part of the solution to larger challenges, such as how we support environmental sustainability, adapt to population changes and growth, and promote job creation and economic development.

This Place Matters initiative was greatly supported by local people in the region of Adjara by promoting places that are meaningful to them and their communities.
