Effendi Villa

Effendi Villa is a cradle of the history of the region of Adjara
Effendi Villa is the only existing monument to the turn of the 20th century history, architecture and everyday life of a family in the region of Adjara. Effendi Villa was one of the first houses built in the region at the end of the 19th century.

Our primary goal is to preserve and revitalize historic buildings, communities and places in the Autonomous Republic of Adjara, Georgia. We work with a variety of stakeholders in accomplishing this mission, including property owners, residents, neighborhoods, developers, cultural heritage organizations, educational institutions and public officials.

We focus on historic preservation and sustainable community planning which definitely includes working with non-profits and others, on adaptive re-use of the significant quality and quantity of historic building stock in the Autonomous Republic of Adjara.

Preservation is not possible without education. It is our strongest tool. We need to understand what we are preserving and the benefits of preservation before we can be advocates.

We provide educational events and opportunities throughout the year in order to foster a greater understanding of European and Georgian cultural legacy and the need to preserve it.

Our mission is to empower people to recognize the significance of historic resources, to preserve them for future generations, and to integrate them into everyday life through redevelopment, lifelong learning, and community conversations.

We offer a variety of programs including learn-by-doing workshops, lectures, heritage tours, community events, social meets ups, and volunteer opportunities from interested amateurs to working professionals.

We rely on a range of strategies in order to advocate for the preservation of historic buildings and places. There is no universal approach to advocacy. Each situation requires a unique plan and approach. It involves the work of many, and issues can often take years to resolve. Our efforts include responding to specific threats, assisting property owners and residents with historic designation, educating our community and professionals in preservation practices and supporting stronger preservation policies and incentives.
